On November 1, 1864, Maryland freed by a new state constitution all those held in bondage within its boundaries.

2016 Maryland Emancipation Day Celebrations.

November 4-6, 2016 please join us in celebrating Maryland Emancipation Day in our parks! Hike the Underground Railroad, tour 19th century log cabins, visit an African American history museum, enjoy living history demonstrations and eat great food! Most Saturday and Sunday Park events are FREE.

Each year we celebrate with a weekend of fun for the whole family at:

NOTE: In the event of severe weather, please call ahead to make sure the parks will be open. On Saturday mornings, please call 301-650-4373 and a recorded message will advise you of the park hours.

Ask about group and school tours!This is the final event weekend of the 2016 History in the Parks season. Group Tours & School Fieldtrips can be reserved year-round. The 2017 History in the Parks event season will restart the first weekend in April.
