Weed Warrior home banner Weed Warrior Events Calendar How to help save the trees

Most natural communities support a great variety of native plants and animals. Such biodiversity is threatened when a few plant species take over and dominate the herbaceous, shrub, and canopy layers of a forest. Find out more about the problem with invasive plants and how you can help in our Learning Center.

Trying New Things

In the war on weeds, mechanical removal is the preferred method wherever and whenever possible. However, this is not always the most efficient way to approach the problem. Our weed warrior program has been researching an alternative method as reported in a Smithsonian Magazine article, A New Weapon in the War on Weeds: Flamethrowers.

Weed Warriors on County Cable Montgomery

Some our favorite Weed Warriors did a video interview for "Did You Know?", a local cable show for County Cable Montgomery. If you ever wanted to know what we do, and why, watching this will get you up to speed.

Thank You!

rock creek conservancy volunteerThank you to all of our volunteers!

We've had 48 volunteers become certified this year (with another 35 still working on completing training). Thank you for your tremendous interest and passion about providing native habitats on parkland.

We've also completed over 4000 hours of service so far in 2015, with hundreds of hours donated by our partners, Friends of Sligo Creek, Little Falls Watershed Alliance and Rock Creek Conservancy (among many others).

Thanks so much to our regular Weed Warriors and our Warrior for a Day recruits!
